28 November 2014
2014 has been quite a year! If we had a Chinese zodiac way to describe our years, 2014, would be 'The Year of the Commission'. As the economy has lifted, we have found a strong renewed interest in truly bespoke work, and we're increasingly recording and sharing images of these designs as they're finished. You'll mainly see them on social media, but in the New Year, we'll be launching a new website to be able to feature them more easily!

So, what have we been doing with ourselves outside of commission work, and more importantly, what new pieces do we have in the shop to show you...?
Sweet Briar Collection
The collection started with the fantastic necklace above. So many people admired the 'Sweet Briar' rose motif, that Jon decided to re-create the elements in earring and pendant form, shown in the image at the top of the page. This rose has always been one of Jon's favourites, being a country boy, growing up in Dorset. He also remembers drinking a lot of Rose Hip syrup!
Floral minor
We've added these pieces to the floral collection over the past year. They are small and delicate- wearable everyday. Earrings start at £892 in recycled 18ct yellow gold, with the pendants starting at £980. We also have pieces made in Fairtrade gold and recycled platinum.
Meadow
Jon has been hunting down some amazing sapphires from all over the world.
The pictures above and below, show two fine sapphires that have become centerpieces for 'Meadow' rings: an amazing 3.01ct cushion cut green and a fine, mid blue, 1.90ct round. Jon was really pleased to find the green sapphire, a colour that is very hard to find in an attractive tone. This one has a lovely blue-green colour and is also the first cushion-shaped stone that we have used in a meadow design. Although Jon chose to rotate it 45 degrees, like a diamond shape. A cushion cut, refers to the shape, one that is square or rectangular with soft, rounded edges and corners. Read and see more about Jon's finds HERE
Our Meadow crossover cluster rings have also been sought after, and Jon has sourced some unusual Fair trade sapphires for this design: teal coloured from Malawi, and delicate, pale blue Montana sapphires from the States. From £3,300.
Natural brown diamonds from the Argyle mine in Western Australia give the design a real warmth and autumnal blast - like all the leaves in the garden!
Deep blue sapphires from Sri Lanka and Madagascar, combined with white diamonds, give the ring a more classic feel, a design that starred in a wonderful proposal of marriage, that took place in our shop recently! You can read more here.
The Meadow rings below, are colourful. They are set with strong, bright 'Buff top' oval stones. The 'Buff top' relates to the cut, which is faceted, like a cut stone underneath, and polished like a cabochon i.e. smooth and pebble like, on top. This gives you a softer organic feel on top, but with some sparkle coming up through the stone. Coloured diamonds give an accent in a complimentary colour.
Amethyst, peridot and rhodalite garnet, set in 18ct Fairtrade white and red gold, from £2986.
A few notable individual pieces!
Above is a fantastic long, thin blue/green tourmaline from Brazil, set in Fairtrade white gold. Tourmaline crystals are naturally long and thin, which give you such an elegant shape to work with. We have kept it quite simple, to really show off the stone. The blue/green colour is very rare now, so this piece really is quite impressive, as it is relatively clean of inclusions. £2,475.
A deep and wonderfully rich, 5.74ct rhodalite Garnet, set in equally rich 18ct Fairtrde red gold. The design, Jon's signature four claw ring, but with the added twist of the cushion cut stone, turned to work on the diamond shape. £2,998.
Please return soon, there are more pieces waiting to be featured!
