Heriloom talk at The Kennels, Goodwood

Last week, Jon and Rachel visited The Kennels at Goodwood to present a talk on Heirloom Jewellery. It was one of the first surprisingly hot and sunny spring days which set the stones and the Sussex countryside in the best possible light. 

The theme was the sentiment and meaning of jewellery, identifying heirlooms of the future in contemporary pieces, demystifying inherited pieces and how to look after your jewellery to keep it in tip top condition. 

With lots of questions from the floor and Jon’s infectious enthusiasm, we covered everything from Royal jewellery from the time of King Arthur, the myth of using gin to clean stones to the comparative cost and relative merits of dress rings versus a set of high performance tyres! 

Rachel advised a number of attendees about the pieces they had brought along and touched on ways in which pieces could be remodelled to breathe new life into them and make them wearable today.

The morning was rounded off with a lovely lunch in the Members’ Library.

Our next Kennels visit is on Wednesday 25th May when Jon will be hosting an Open Jewellery Workshop, bringing a jeweller's bench and illustrating the lifecycle of a piece of jewellery from the initial drawing to its final incarnation.
