Chocolate and Love was founded in 2010 by Richard and Birgitte, who set out to create an ethical, organic chocolate brand. Their chocolate is now stocked in 30 countries worldwide and has won 23 awards. They source cacao, cane sugar, vanilla and coffee from Fairtrade certified cooperatives in Panama, Peru, The Dominican Republic and Madagascar.

Quinola’s philosophy is deeply ethical. Not only do they work directly with their quinoa producers under the Fairtrade scheme, they also help their Peruvian farmers raise long-term finance at favourable interest rates. Their Fairtrade grain range is packed in France by a team with learning difficulties, in an effort to support the community with a better life through team work.

Plamil started in the 1960s with nutrition, ethics and the environment high on the agenda. They were the first company in the UK to produce an alternative to dairy milk, producing the original ‘soya milk’ and are now leaders in all things vegan. Many ingredients are organic or Fairtrade, and their suppliers are treated with respect. Their MD, Adrian Ling, has been called the vegan Willy Wonka!

Fair Squared offer cosmetics and personal hygiene products made from natural, fairly traded ingredients. Their cosmetic products were among the first to achieve Fairtrade certification. They source ingredients from more than 15 Fairtrade partners including olive oil from Palestine, almond oil from Pakistan and shea butter from Burkina Faso.

Zaytoun was founded in 2004 to support the resilience and livelihoods of Palestinian farmers under occupation, through fairly trading their olive oil. The venture was initially funded by hundreds of customers who put up payment in advance of receiving their oil, and Zaytoun went on to pioneer the world’s first Fairtrade certified olive oil in 2009.

Tate and Lyle made their commitment to Fairtrade in 2008, which saw UK Fairtrade sugar sales rise from around £4.5 million to around £40 million in 2010. Since then, they have supported many other farmers and organisations to become Fairtrade certified. Today, they source Fairtrade sugar from over 20,000 small scale cane farmers, in 14 different groups, in 4 countries - including Belize and Jamaica.

Waitrose became the first supermarket in the UK to exclusively sell Fairtrade bananas back in 2007, and, as a result, the number of ethically sourced bananas in the UK increased by 10%. Over the years they have continued to convert more lines to Fairtrade (Tea, Coffee, Wine, Sugar, Chocolate), ensuring a continued positive impact across a range of supply chains in many different countries.

Tropical Wholefoods started life importing sun-dried bananas and pineapples from Uganda in the 1990s and, for them, Fairtrade means more than just buying and selling Fairtrade fruits and nuts. They also make their amazing Tropical Wholefood bars at their factory in Sunderland. They work with Fairtrade food providers in Pakistan, Uganda and Burkina Faso.
